Heh, I hate to say this, but from what I've heard, using SLIP with
anything less than a 9600 baud modem can be verrryyyyy slow. You
may want to consider upgrading to faster modem before experimenting
with Winsock/SLIP.

Anyone know of a free/share-ware NFS client for Windows or DOS using Winsock?

Where did you get it? I can't find anything called "WinIRC" anywhere...

NNTP: Try Trumpet for Windows (newsreader, not winsock :) or WinVN. Both
should be readily available at ftp.cica.indiana.edu in the /pub/pc3/winsock
directory.
MAIL: You have it pegged most of the way; most of us (I think?) use Eudora as
our winsock mail client.... Pegasus is, from what I understand, very nice
indeed, but it also not free.... it's a commercial product.
Hope This Helps...

Subject: MS TCP/IP Daytona Beta problem (programming)
I'm writing a program (in WFWG 3.11) that uses MS's Daytona Beta winsock
implementation. However, when I try to bind() a socket to my local address I
get a WSAEADDRINUSE error, even if I had set the SO_REUSEADDR option to TRUE
using setsockopt(). I tried running my program on NetManage's winsock and it
worked, so I figured it's MS winsock's problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions or workarounds?
Alan
P.S. I'm using the beta dated 4/4/94.

I agree as long as you are not going over a serial link. If you are doing SLIP
or PPP I would look seriously into FTPs kernel and mosiac over that. It comes
with a WINSOCK.DLL that is a lot less buggy than NetManages's. Don't tell
them, but for a lot of their apps that did not make NEWT calls I used them over
FTP's WINSOCK. I've never had any problems using Trumpet over FTP's WINSOCK.
Good Luck
John
